Bucket List

I finished a Marathon in 2014. The first 30 kilometres were relaxed, but kilometre 30 to 35 really were crunch time. I did the Marathon in Hannover, were I participated in several half marathons before.

I finished a Triathlon in 2015. The swimming part took place in the Maschsee. The bike I had to borrow from Mark.

I finished Xletix in 2018 and the StrongMan Run in 2017. The Strongman Run I did with Henrik. It took place at the Nurburgring that is normally used by the Formel 1.

I did Bungee Jumping at the Kawarau Bridge in New Zealand in 2015. Was it scary? Hell yeah!

I did Canyoning in New Zealand in the Abel Tasman National Park in 2015 and in the south of Chile in 2022. In New Zealand it was really warm and the track included some cool jumps. In order to reach the track we had to take a boat. The track in Chile had amazing views with dark narrow canyons with reflections of light and waterfalls.

I was on a Safari in in South Africa in 2018. I was quite lucky to see many animals in the Kruger National Park. Later I continued my travel in Swaziland that is now called Eswatini.

Elephant

Rhinoceros

African Buffalo

Lion (I swear it’s a female lion)

Leopard

I hiked in Torres del Paine in Patagonia in 2019. Unfortunately it was just a short hike. I need to return for the big circuit.

I saw wild Pinguins in the Land of Fire in the South of Chile in 2019. But come on… where is the snow?

I dived at the Great Barrier Reef in Australia in 2015. The Great Barrier Reef is an endangered coral reef that used to contain (and in some parts still has) a lot of sea life and colourful corals. The photo was probably taken by Henrik, because we did a Road Trip through Australia.

I visited the pyramids of Giza in the west of Cairo in 2021. Everyone knows that the pyramids are really close to the city, but when I was onsite, I was still surprised. The pyramids are the only old wonder of the world that still exists. They were build around 2.500 BC.

I visited the Valley of the Kings in Luxor in 2021. In Luxor it was possible to rend a bike to get to the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens which are located on the West Bank of Luxor.

The Valley of the Kings is known in Europe mostly due to the work of Howard Carter, who found the tomb of Tutankhamun. The valley contains many other tombs with beautiful hieroglyphs and reliefs like Seti I, II, Ramses III, IV, V, VI, VII, IX. In the Valley of the Queens the tomb of Nefertari, the wife of Pharaoh Ramesses II, is worth a visit (but also very expensive).

I bought a souvenir on the Khan El-Khalili Bazaar in Cairo in 2021. It was a medium sized statue of Cleopatra. I’m still proud of my negotiation skills. Anyway, the trader still made a fair profit. The bazaar was founded in the 14th century and is the biggest bazaar in Africa.

I climbed the „Zugspitze“ in 2020. The „Zugspitze“ is the highest mountain (2962m) in Germany.

I climbed the Rothorn in Zermatt with my brother in 2014 and we had a great view on the iconic Matterhorn.

I floated in the Dead Sea between Jordania and Israel in 2021. And yes, it’s very salty. Don’t even dare to think of touching your eyes!

I visited Petra in 2021 and felt like Indiana Jones. Petra was the capital of the Nebataean kingdom and played an important role in the incense trade and connected Medina and Damascus.

I walked around Stonehenge in 2021.

I’ve been in London in 2021 and several times before too.

I survived a few days in the jungle of the Amazonas with 3 guys from Switzerland in 2017. We built a shelter and ate piranhas.

I hiked to Machu Picchu in 2017.

I visited Chichén Itzá in 2016.

I saw the Cristo Redentor in 2017.

I saw the Statue of Liberty in 2019.

I visited New York in 2019

I hiked on the Great Chinese Wall for a whole day in 2016.

I visited Angkor Wat for a few days in 2019.

I saw „A Midsummer Night’s Dream“ in the Globe Theatre in London in 2013.

I visited many of the big National Parks in the USA, such as Yosemite, Yellowstone or Grand Canyon, on a big road trip with my family in 2003.

I visited the Galapagos islands in 2017, following the footsteps or Charles Darwin.

I visited the Easter Island in 2022 and saw the Moai with my own eyes. The first time I ever heard about them was when I read a Donald Duck comic book during my childhood featuring this amazing island.

I ate a lot of Sushi and Ramen in Japan in 2023.

I saw the beautiful cherry blossom in Japan in 2023.

I ate traditional so called „Beijing duck“ in 2016 in a specialised restaurant in Beijing.

I visited many famous places in Beijing including the Forbidden City in 2016. The city was indeed huge.

I ate street food on various occasions on my asia trip in 2019.

I visited the reconstructed Vietcong tunnels in Cu Chi in 2019 and crawling through them was very scary as they were really really small.

I had a brief stop in Montreal on the return from a stay in New York in 2020. I used the opportunity to see the city and do some ice skating.

I saw the Mona Lisa in the Louvre in 2018 and it was really crowded. From my point of view the painting is way overrated. I prefer paintings that show landscape or historical eventy like „La Liberté guidant le peuple“ (Die Freiheit führt das Volk) by Eugène Delacroix.

I visited the Eiffel Tower the first time I was in Paris in 2018. It was build for the World Expo in 1889 and to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution.

During my stay in Italy in 2019 I had the pleasure to enjoy typical italian pizza on various occasions. Delicious!

I entered the Colosseum in Rome, which is one of the seven world wonders, in 2019 and felt like Russell Crowe in Gladiator.

I visited Greece together with my family in 2001. On this occasion we also saw the ruins of the Acropolis in Athen.
